What is GRUDGE?

GRUDGE looks like an ordinary little platformer: walk right and reach the door. It is not. The floors lie, the doors run away, the signs are written by someone who does not want you to win, and the game is watching.

It notices whether you jump early or late, rush or hesitate, obey or defy, and builds its traps around your habits. Once a level has decided how to treat you, it never changes, so everything you learn stays true. By the last level you are not beating levels, you are arguing with the game itself.

Every trap is deterministic and every death teaches something. It is meant to be infuriating, never unfair.

Controls

Phone: on-screen pad to move, JUMP to jump (hold for a full jump, tap for a hop). Keyboard: arrows or A/D to move, Space, W or Up to jump, R to restart, Esc or P to pause.

Questions

What is GRUDGE?

GRUDGE is a short rage platformer you play in the browser. The platformer that remembers how you play. It studies your habits and uses them against you, while every level stays beatable and fair.

Is it free?

Yes. It is free to play, with no ads, no account and nothing to buy.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Open the site and press play. It works in any modern browser.

Can I play it on my phone?

Yes. It was designed for phones first, with on-screen controls. On a computer, use the arrow keys or A and D to move and Space to jump.

Is it fair?

Yes. The game is deterministic: the same moves always give the same result, every required jump has a generous timing window, and every death hints at the way through.

How does it learn how I play?

It counts simple things, such as when you jump, how long you wait and whether you follow its signs. That shapes which version of some later levels you get. Once a level has picked a version for you it never changes.

Does it collect my data?

Your progress and everything the game learns about you stay in your own browser. Only anonymous gameplay counts are sent, to see where players get stuck.
