What is a rage game?
A rage game is a game designed to frustrate you on purpose. Floors that vanish, spikes that appear from nowhere, doors that are not doors. The fun is in being fooled, working out the trick, and finally getting past it.
Rage platformers are also called troll platformers, trap platformers or troll games. Well-known examples of the genre include I Wanna Be the Guy, Syobon Action (often called Cat Mario), Trap Adventure 2, Level Devil, Jump King and Getting Over It.
What makes GRUDGE different
Most troll games set the same traps for everyone. GRUDGE watches how you play first. It notices whether you jump early or late, rush or wait, and whether you do what its signs tell you. Later levels are built around those habits, so the traps you meet are aimed at you.
The game is also a character. It starts out as a cheerful host, and the further you get, the less friendly it sounds. By the end you are playing against it, not the levels.
Hard, but fair
A good rage game is cruel, not random. In GRUDGE the same moves always give the same result, every jump it asks of you has a generous timing window, and every death leaves a hint. Once a level has chosen how to treat you, it never changes, so what you learn stays true.
